Inspired by nature, agriculture, and sociology Jana creates artworks that mix natural and figurative elements to express the interactions between them.
Through her works she is combining her background in agricultural and rural development with her passion for art.
The work shows three women, standing side by side, supporting each other, each holding an item that is a symbol for women’s empowerment and equality in agriculture (A crop (women need equal access to resources), a test tube (recognizing women’s importance in agricultural science and innovation), a set of scales (depicting justice) and a book (support women’s engagement in policy/law making).
The breadfruit is aimed to highlight the current critical nutrition situation and the important role women play in nutrition. Breadfruit is a high yielding tree with a high nutritious value and it is an important staple crop and part of traditional Pacific agroforestry systems.
It also holds great potential for value adding, creating better incomes for rural communities.
